What 컻 means
One Korean syllable; its surrounding word supplies the meaning.
The Hangul letters, called jamo, are ㅋ, ㅓ, and final ㅊ. The canonical sequence ᄏ ᅥ ᆾ can also render as the same syllable block.
How did Hangul begin?
It was designed to write Korean speech with its own letters.
Hangul took shape in 1443–1446, grouping letters into syllable blocks. Korean writing before 1446 also used Chinese-character systems such as idu and hyangchal; they did not visually lead to 컻. Hangul’s later spread widened the script’s reach, not this block’s meaning.

Questions people ask
1Why does 컻 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
