What 퀆 means
On a Korean two-set keyboard, type ㅋ, ㅜ, ㅓ, ㄹ, ㅁ. The input method joins ㅜ ㅓ into ㅝ and final ㄹ ㅁ into ㄻ, composing 퀆 from its initial consonant, vowel and final cluster.
퀆 is the same syllable written as three Unicode Hangul letters, called jamo. A Unicode-aware editor can combine them with NFC normalization, Unicode’s form for composing Hangul letters into syllables.
Without font coverage, 퀆 may appear as a box; the font changes what you see, not the character.
Does 퀆 mean anything by itself?
No established standalone meaning as of 2026-09. A Hangul syllable block contributes a sound inside a word or name; the surrounding word supplies its lexical meaning.
Hangul was devised for Korean speech. The book Hunminjeongeum explained the writing system’s principles. Hangul shared space with Classical Chinese in poetry and religious writing before expanding into public writing. Earlier practices called Idu, Hyangchal and Gugyeol adapted Chinese characters to write Korean; they are historical context, not component forms of 퀆. A proposed connection to the Mongolian-derived Phags-pa script remains debated.
