Hangul syllable Kwep

To type 퀲, switch to a Korean IME and enter ㅋ ㅞ ㅍ; on Dubeolsik, use Z, N-P, V. It is one Hangul syllable block whose word meaning depends on Korean context; the same syllable can also be stored as three separate jamo.

Text symbol

What 퀲 means

Use a Korean IME: ㅋ ㅞ ㅍ.

On a standard Korean keyboard with the Dubeolsik (two-set QWERTY) layout, press Z, then N-P for ㅞ, then V for ㅍ. The input method combines the initial consonant ㅋ, vowel ㅞ, and final consonant ㅍ into one syllable block; changing or leaving out the final consonant makes a different syllable.

Decomposed Hangul jamo can appear as the sequence 퀲, with the parts shown separately. NFC normalization, Unicode’s composed text form, recombines this modern sequence into the single block 퀲.

Does 퀲 mean anything by itself?

By itself, 퀲 is best read as a character sample.

Hangul blocks are syllables; a word, rather than each block in isolation, supplies lexical meaning. If 퀲 arrives alone, treat it as a character lookup or input test: it has no established standalone word meaning or conventional message use as of 2026.

How did Hangul change Korean writing?

Hangul gave Korean a script designed around Korean speech. Before Hangul, Korean writers used Chinese characters and systems such as hyangchal and idu to write Korean. These workarounds made it cumbersome to record spoken Korean.

The key dates are 1443 and 1446: King Sejong completed Hangul in the first year, and the Hunminjeongeum, a guide presenting and explaining the alphabet, was published in the second.

The script’s name varies by setting: as of 2026, Hangul is more common in South Korea, while Choseongul is preferred in North Korea. Unicode 18.0 also preserves separate jamo sequences for older Korean syllables outside the modern precomposed set.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 퀲 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
