What 콍 means
It records 啓 in the book’s rising-tone class.
King Sejong commissioned the Dongguk Jeongun (동국정운), Korea’s first rhyme book, to standardize varied Korean readings of Chinese characters. It groups entries by sound and four pitch classes; 콍 appears before 啓 under 上, the rising-tone class.
Those prescribed distinctions did not fit speech well. The readings survived mainly in Buddhist texts with pronunciation notes; use of the system ended by the early 16th century. Unicode’s “kyeng” is a romanized label for this Hangul syllable.
Historical and specialist: the book uses it to spell a prescribed Korean reading of a Chinese character.
