What 멂 means
멂 is the noun form of 멀다, meaning “being far.” The Korean stem 멀- (“far”) takes the noun-forming ending -ㅁ. It names the state or fact of being far; a sentence normally makes clear what is far.
Hangul, the Korean writing system, was devised under King Sejong in 1443; the book Hunminjeongeum, which explained its original 28 letters, followed in 1446. Hangul arranges consonant and vowel letters into syllable blocks; 멂 is one such block.
On a Korean two-set keyboard, a-j-f-a enters ㅁ ㅓ ㄹ ㅁ, and the input method composes them into 멂.
How is the final ㄻ pronounced?
At a word boundary, only the final m sound is heard. Standard Korean pronounces ㄻ as ㅁ there, though the spelling keeps both ㄹ and ㅁ. Before a vowel-initial ending, ㄹ closes the first syllable and ㅁ starts the next, as in 젊어.
Why does 멂 look broken?
It may be stored as a block or as separate letters. Unicode can represent a Hangul syllable as one precomposed block or as its jamo, the letters that build it. An app or font may display the same Korean text in either form.
Unicode normalization form NFC recomposes the letters into a block; NFD keeps the jamo separate. If the text remains split, converting it to NFC recomposes the syllable.
A neutral Korean noun form; in a sentence, it names the state of being far.
Alone, it leaves what is far unstated.
