Hangul syllable Meugs

Hangul is the Korean alphabet, written in syllable blocks; 믃 combines ㅁ, ㅡ, and final ㄳ (ㄱ ㅅ). This is a sound unit, not a word with a fixed meaning, and ㄳ has a clipped k-like sound at a word end.

What 믃 means

On its own, 믃 is a syllable, not a word. Its first two positions are the m sound and the Korean vowel ㅡ, made with the tongue high and lips unrounded; the last is the two-part ending ㄳ. The Unicode name is assembled from component labels, not a dictionary definition.

The pronunciation of 믃 depends on its place in a Korean word: before a consonant or pause, ㄳ is heard as ㄱ, a clipped k-like sound. Before a vowel, ㄱ stays at the end and ㅅ moves to the next syllable, where it has the stronger sound of ㅆ.

Why does Hangul use syllable blocks?

Each block gathers the sounds of one syllable. Hangul letters fit together as an initial consonant, a vowel, and sometimes a final consonant. 믃 follows that repeatable design; it is not a separately drawn emblem.

Hangul was devised under King Sejong in 1443, when Korean speech differed from Chinese and writing Korean generally relied on Chinese characters. Its first name was Hunminjeongeum; a book explaining the script and its principles, also titled Hunminjeongeum, was published in 1446.

Hangul went on to carry Buddhist and Confucian texts, as well as practical, literary, and official writing; it gained official state status in Korea in 1894. This history belongs to the script, while 믃 is one syllable formed by its reusable letter pattern.

How do you type 믃?

Use a Korean input method and enter ㅁ, ㅡ, ㄱ, then ㅅ. The input method combines the Hangul letters as you type; the final ㄳ cluster takes two consonant inputs, so 믃 appears once the cluster is complete.

Unicode can store Hangul as one precomposed block or as ᄆ ᅳ ᆪ. Normalizing text makes these forms match during comparisons; if a font shows a box, that is a missing-glyph issue, not a different character.

Why does 믃 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
