What 밉 means
It means hateful, unpleasant, or hard to like.
The full word is 밉다 (mipda); you will meet it as 미운 or 미워 in real sentences. It can judge annoying behavior or, more sharply, call a look unattractive — that second use is the one that stings.
Hangul itself was created in 1443 and explained in 1446 to write Korean more directly than borrowed Chinese-character methods. The related older form 믜다 is attested in a 1447 text with a hate sense; as of 2026 there is no separate documented history for the isolated block 밉.
Negative and personal; about looks, it can insult.
Do not use it about someone's looks casually.
