What 믽 means
By itself, 믽 is a syllable, not a complete word.
Hangul arranges its letters, called jamo, into compact syllable blocks rather than a row. Here, ㅁ is the initial consonant, ㅣ the vowel, and ㄵ the final consonant cluster, called batchim.
Hangul's first recorded appearance is placed in December 1443; an explanatory book about the alphabet followed in 1446. The script let people write Korean more directly because Chinese characters fit Korean grammar poorly, while literacy in classical Chinese was limited. Hangul later appeared in letters, Buddhist books, and novels. Chinese characters were the earlier writing tradition used in Korea, not the source of Hangul's letter shapes. A possible influence from the Mongolian Phags-pa script is proposed, but the connection remains unsettled.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
