hangul syllable moelg

Hangul syllable Moelg

3846/11172

묅 is a Korean Hangul syllable block built from ㅁ, ㅚ and final ㄺ; by itself, it has no established word meaning. “Moelg” labels its sound structure rather than translating a word, so surrounding Korean text supplies any lexical meaning. A Korean 2-set keyboard composes it from those jamo, while Unicode can also represent the same syllable as separate jamo.

What 묅 means

By itself, 묅 has no established Korean word meaning. “Moelg” labels the block’s structure, not a translation.

As of 2026, it has no established standalone lexical use. Inside a Korean word, the surrounding syllables supply the meaning.

why was hangul built this way?

To make Korean speech easier to write. Hangul was devised in 1443. Hunminjeongeum, a book explaining its purpose and principles, was published in 1446. Earlier methods such as Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean words and grammar or indicate readings.

Hangul later appeared in Buddhist and Confucian publications, then spread into practical print such as laws and institutional records. Those earlier methods are historical predecessors; this block itself is built from jamo, Hangul letters arranged into a syllable block.

how do you type 묅?

Use a Korean input method to enter ㅁ, ㅚ, then ㄺ. On the 2-set Dubeolsik layout, type a, then hl, then fr; the last keys produce the final ㄺ cluster.

The canonical decomposed sequence is 묅. Unicode normalization can represent the same syllable as one precomposed block or as separate conjoining jamo.

Neutral as a Hangul syllable block; alone, it reads as structural or incomplete rather than expressive.

Do not read “moelg” as a Korean word translation; it labels the syllable’s structure.

1

why does 묅 look different in different fonts?

It can. Fonts draw and place the same syllable’s components differently; a visual difference alone does not make it a different character.
