What 무 means
The whole word decides. Native Korean 무 means radish. In Chinese-character words, 無 signals absence or “nothing,” while 武 carries the martial sense.
Radish pickling appears in mid-Goryeo records. Hangul was announced in 1443; Hunminjeongeum, a guide to the script, appeared in 1446. A 1518 record describes radish in kimchi soup.

Questions people ask
1Why does 무 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
