Hangul Syllable Mwi

3977/11172

뮈 is a Korean Hangul syllable romanized mwi; alone, it has no fixed translation. Read it inside its Korean word, while Older Korean sources also use 뮈 for sea cucumber, kept in the food name 뮈쌈. Type it with Korean input as ㅁ ㅟ and let the IME build the block.

What 뮈 means

뮈 is a Korean syllable; its surrounding word supplies the meaning.

Hangul gives this block structure, not a standalone message. Its earliest supported evidence is a 1443 creation record and the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, which explains the script's purpose: making Korean easier to read and write than Chinese-character-based methods. The connected forms are ㅁ, the initial consonant, and ㅟ, the vowel; the initial-medial-final system packs them into one syllable block.

In older Korean reference works, 뮈 is a native word for sea cucumber. A study of jongga ritual food traces it in 뮈쌈, a sea-cucumber dish name, and follows the later shift toward 미쌈 and the spoken form 밑쌈. That is a historical lexical use, not a modern chat meaning; a lone 뮈 keeps the force of whatever Korean word or source contains it.

How do I type 뮈?

Use Korean 2-set input: A, then N, then L.

In the standard 2-set layout, A gives ㅁ, N gives ㅜ, and L gives ㅣ. The IME merges ㅜ ㅣ into ㅟ, then composes 뮈. If you get separate jamo instead, switch the input method to Korean or use an on-screen Korean keyboard.

On a phone, Korean QWERTY/2-set keeps the desktop key positions; a 10-key layout reaches the same letters through taps and flicks. Copy it from the palette above if typing fights you.

Neutral as a Hangul character; a one-character message leaves the intended word or source unclear.

Do not translate a lone 뮈 as “what”; that is 뭐.

Questions people ask

2

Why does 뮈 look different in different fonts?

It can. Different fonts draw the same Hangul glyph with different strokes and proportions; that visual change does not create a new meaning.

Can 뮈 mean sea cucumber?

It can in historical Korean. Older Korean sources use 뮈 for sea cucumber, and 뮈쌈 preserves that older noun in a traditional-food name.
