hangul syllable noelb

Hangul syllable noelb

1496/11172

뇗 is a Korean Hangul syllable block made from ㄴ, ㅚ, and final ㄼ. The block represents a syllable; the surrounding Korean word supplies its meaning. A Korean input method composes the parts into one block.

What 뇗 means

The block identifies one syllable, not the word around it.

Its Hangul letters are ㄴ (initial consonant), ㅚ (vowel), and ㄼ (final cluster, ㄹ ㅂ). These parts show how the syllable is built; the surrounding word supplies its meaning.

Why was Hangul made?

Hangul was developed as an alphabet for writing Korean.

Earlier, Korean writers used Chinese characters, including adapted practices called Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal, to write Korean speech. Hangul's documented development culminated in 1443; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, a book explaining the letters' design and use, described the new alphabet.

Hangul was used in Buddhist scripture, translations of Confucian writings, practical texts, and everyday writing. It became the official national writing system in 1894, lost that status under Japanese rule in 1910, and regained a central public role after Korea's liberation in 1945.

How do I type 뇗?

Use a Korean input method: enter ㄴ, ㅚ, then ㄹ and ㅂ.

An input method editor combines Hangul letters into a block. The final ㄹ ㅂ forms the cluster ㄼ; if a vowel follows during continuous input, the editor may move part of that cluster to the next syllable.

Unicode can encode the syllable as one precomposed character, 뇗, or as three decomposed letters, 뇗. Unicode treats the forms as equivalent, so software may normalize one into the other.

Tone: neutral Korean text; by itself, this syllable does not identify a word.

Alone, it cannot tell you which word is intended; ask for the surrounding Korean text.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 뇗 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
