What 오 means
An interjection alone. It can show recognition or surprise. In 오다 (“to come”), it belongs to the word.
Hangul made Korean easier to write than Chinese characters. Its creation dates to 1443; the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum appeared in 1446. These date Hangul, not 오. Middle Korean, an earlier form of Korean, used -오- as an intention-marking verb ending; that use disappeared after the 16th century and is separate from today’s reaction.

Questions people ask
1Why does 오 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
