옳 uses Hangul’s syllable-block pattern: initial ㅇ, vowel ㅗ, final ㅀ. Hangul was designed to write Korean with its own sound-based letters; the system was introduced as Hunminjeongeum in 1443, and an explanatory book followed in 1446.
Endings alter the final sounds: 옳다 is 올타 (ㅎ adds breath to ㄷ), 옳은 is 오른 (ㅎ drops before a vowel), and 옳지 is 올치 (ㅎ adds breath to ㅈ).
