What 페 means

It has no fixed meaning alone; its word supplies it.

Hangul blocks combine ㅍ, a consonant, and ㅔ, a vowel. Korean-to-Latin spelling writes 페 as pe; ㅍ has a puffed p, and ㅔ sounds like the e in “bed.”

King Sejong’s court designed Hangul to make Korean easier to learn than Chinese characters. It was developed in 1443 and introduced in 1446. A 1995 comparison by the National Institute of Korean Language records the spelling split.

Why does 페 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
