hangul syllable peus

Hangul syllable Peus

10520/11172

픗 is a Hangul syllable block made from a starting consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant; it has no fixed English translation by itself. Its Korean word supplies context, and a lone 픗 has no established chat reaction. If someone sends it alone, ask what word or context they mean.

What 픗 means

By itself, it gives a Korean syllable, not a fixed English translation.

Hangul writes each spoken syllable as a block made from smaller letters called jamo. The meaning of 픗 comes from the Korean word it belongs to: this block starts with a consonant, has a vowel, and ends with a consonant.

Unicode’s formal decomposition is ᄑ ᅳ ᆺ: starting consonant, vowel, ending consonant. Those are the parts represented together in the single syllable block.

Why was Hangul created?

To write Korean speech with a system designed for Korean.

King Sejong introduced Hangul under the name 훈민정음, meaning “proper sounds for instructing the people,” in 1443. An explanatory book of the same name followed in 1446.

Korean had been written with Chinese characters, which did not fit Korean speech directly. Hangul provided a writing system built around Korean sounds; 픗 follows its regular way of arranging letters into syllable blocks.

How do I type 픗 on a Korean keyboard?

On a Korean 2-set keyboard, press v, then m, then t.

On the Dubeolsik layout, which maps Korean inputs to QWERTY keys, these correspond to ㅍ, ㅡ, and ㅅ. With Korean input active, the IME combines them into 픗; with English input active, the keys type Latin letters.

Apps can store this as the precomposed block 픗 or as the equivalent three-jamo sequence 픗. Normalization can switch between those forms. As of 2026, app support for shaping decomposed Hangul varies, so some apps may display the parts separately.

Neutral as text in a Korean word; cryptic as a one-character message.

Don't infer a mood, insult, or slang meaning from 픗 alone.

Why does 픗 look different in different fonts?

Different Hangul typefaces arrange a syllable’s parts with different spacing and proportions. The syllable and its reading stay the same.

Why does 픗 split into jamo?

Unicode normalization can store it in two equivalent forms: NFC keeps 픗 as one precomposed syllable, while NFD stores 픗 as three conjoining jamo.
