What 풆 means

Its meaning comes from its place in a Korean word. 풆 joins initial ㅍ, vowel ㅜ and final ㄿ. Unicode builds its PULP label from the parts’ Latin-letter names; it is not a Korean translation.

Hangul was devised to write Korean and make literacy easier without first learning Chinese characters. Its first firm record is late-1443; an explanatory manuscript was completed in 1446. It later faced elite resistance and became a marker of Korean identity. Scholars compare its block layout with Chinese-character writing and debate influence from the Mongolian-derived Phags-pa script.
