What 푨 means
Use a Korean two-set keyboard: press V, Y, F, then T. The Dubeolsik map for 2026 assigns those keys to ㅍ, ㅛ, ㄹ, and ㅅ; the keyboard's input software joins the last two into the final ㄽ cluster.
The Unicode 17.0 reference chart shows a sample form, not a required design. Hangul fonts may arrange the parts differently while displaying the same character. Typing “pyols” as Latin letters does not produce 푨; Korean input has to be active.
What does 푨 mean by itself?
푨 has no established standalone Korean word meaning as of 2026. It is an assembled Hangul syllable: initial consonant ㅍ, vowel ㅛ, and final ㄽ cluster. The Unicode label “pyols” describes that spelling; it is not a Korean definition.
Hangul's earliest documented creation record is from 1443. The Hunminjeongeum, an explanatory book published in 1446, described a system for writing Korean speech and making it easier to learn. Earlier names for the script included jeongeum, eonmun, banjeol, gukmun, and gukseo; Hangeul was widespread as its name by 1928. These dates belong to the writing system, not to this particular syllable.

1Why does 푨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
