What 렁 means
On its own, 렁 is one syllable, not a complete word.
It combines ㄹ (initial consonant), ㅓ (vowel), and ㅇ (final consonant).
Created in 1443 and introduced in 1446, Hangul let ordinary people write Korean without first learning Chinese characters. It took centuries to become widespread in daily writing, around the 1990s or 2000s.
How do you type 렁?
With Korean input on, type ㄹ, then ㅓ, then ㅇ.
끝말잇기 chains Korean words by matching the last syllable of one to the next word's first syllable. As of 2026, one example is 표구렁 넝쿨: final 렁 shifts to initial 넝 under a Korean sound rule.
