hangul syllable roe

Hangul Syllable Roe

뢰 is a Korean Hangul syllable block, not a word or emoji. It combines the consonant ㄹ with the vowel ㅚ, pronounced roughly “roe,” and gets its meaning from the Korean word around it. You type it by combining jamo; copy it from the palette above.

What 뢰 means

It has no meaning alone; its word gives it meaning. Hangul packs consonant and vowel letters, called jamo, into one syllable square. 뢰 is ㄹ plus ㅚ, pronounced roughly “roe,” and it works only inside words such as 지뢰, meaning landmine, and 어뢰, meaning torpedo.

Why does 뢰 become 뇌? South Korean spelling changes the form by position: many Sino-Korean words write 뇌 at the start of a word but 뢰 in the middle or at the end, so look for the surrounding word before copying one form.

Why does 뢰 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
