What 뢱 means
It is one Hangul syllable, built from Korean letter elements. These elements are called jamo: ㄹ starts the syllable, ㅚ is its vowel, and ㄱ closes it. The syllable contributes to a Korean word; the word carries the meaning.

How did Hangul take shape?
Hangul was designed to write Korean speech with its own letters. The Sejong Sillok, the court annals of King Sejong, records the creation of 28 letters in 1443. The Hunminjeongeum, an explanatory book published in 1446, described their purpose and how a syllable combines an opening consonant, a vowel, and sometimes a closing consonant. Korean had often been written with Chinese characters, which did not represent its speech straightforwardly.
Hangul moved from Buddhist and Confucian books into practical writing, including labels, letters, and everyday communication. It became Korea's official national writing system in 1894, then lost that status during Japanese rule and remained in use through study and education. Phags-pa is a separate, square-shaped script based on Tibetan; Korean scholarship has debated whether it influenced parts of Hunminjeongeum. That proposed connection concerns the script's design, not the origin or meaning of 뢱.
Neutral inside Korean text; by itself, this syllable reads as a fragment without its word context.
A lone 뢱 does not identify the sender's message; ask what word or thought they meant.

Questions people ask
1Why does 뢱 look different in different fonts?
It can. The active font draws Hangul's strokes, and Unicode's reference shapes are not prescriptive; proportions may vary without changing the character.
