롌 is one unit of Korean spelling: it represents a syllable, and its meaning comes from the word around it. Its final ㄽ can sound different depending on what follows.

What 롌 means

Read 롌 as one syllable within a Korean word. The Hangul block combines an initial consonant, a vowel, and a two-consonant ending: ㄹ ㅕ ㄽ. It is a spelling unit, not a pictographic emoji.

At a word end or before another consonant, ㄽ reduces to ㄹ. Before an ending that begins with a vowel, its ㅅ moves to the next syllable and is pronounced as the tighter, tense sound ㅆ. Read the whole Korean word to know which sound applies.

How do I type 롌?

On a Korean Dubeolsik keyboard, type ㄹ ㅕ ㄹ ㅅ. On its QWERTY layout, those keys are f-u-f-t; Korean input software joins them into one syllable block.

The active font draws the Hangul block, so its shape can vary across fonts. If a font lacks it, the character may fall back to another font or appear as a missing-glyph box; that is a font-coverage difference, not another character.

When did Hangul begin?

Hangul was designed to represent Korean speech. Its documented development and publication trail runs from 1443–1446: the new script was completed in 1443, and a 1446 guide called Hunminjeongeum explained its letters, sounds, and syllable building. The project addressed a practical problem: Chinese-character writing was difficult to fit to Korean grammar and kept literacy socially narrow.

Hangul arranges letters into syllable blocks. In modern digital text, the component letters can be stored as one precomposed character; 롌 is one such block.

Neutral as part of Korean spelling; alone, it looks technical rather than expressive.
