What 섞 means
섞 is a Korean verb stem meaning “mix” or “combine.”
In 섞다, 섞 is the stem and 다 completes the verb. It can describe combining ingredients or mixing languages, jokes, actions, and serious or comic material.
Hangul was designed to fit Korean speech and make everyday writing easier than using Chinese characters. A record from 1443 reports 28 letters; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum Haerye, a guide to the writing system, explains how initial consonants, vowels, and final consonants form syllables. 섞 follows that structure: ㅅ begins it, ㅓ is its vowel, and ㄲ closes it.
How do you type 섞?
Use a Korean two-set keyboard: T, J, then ShiftR.
On the standard Korean two-set QWERTY layout, those keys enter ㅅ, ㅓ, and ㄲ; the Korean input method joins them into 섞. If they stay separate, check that Korean input is active. A following vowel can also move the final ㄲ into the next syllable, changing the displayed blocks.
Unicode can represent the syllable as one precomposed character or as separate Hangul letters, called jamo. A font arranges separate jamo into a square syllable block; that assembled layout is still text, not a picture.
Why does 섞 sound different in 섞다?
Its spelling stays, but Korean sound rules shift with the ending.
In 섞다, the following ㄷ is pronounced tensely. With vowel-starting endings in 섞어 and 섞으니, final ㄲ begins the next syllable; before ㄴ in 섞는, the final sound becomes nasal. Korean writes these readings as 석따, 서꺼, 서끄니, and 성는. Learn the stem with its ending rather than assigning 섞 one fixed sound.

Questions people ask
1Why does 섞 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
