What 싸 means
Use ShiftT, then K on standard two-set input. ShiftT enters ㅆ, K enters ㅏ, and the Korean IME joins them into 싸. The syllable also appears in 싸게 and 싸요, forms whose full words supply the meaning.
On phones, the gesture depends on the Korean keyboard app. If Latin letters appear, switch the active input source to Korean.
What does 싸 mean?
The full Korean word decides the meaning. Dictionary entries for 싸다 include “to be cheap,” “to wrap,” “to pack,” and a crude verb for urinating or defecating. An isolated 싸 does not choose among those senses.
Here ㅆ is the tense counterpart of ㅅ, so its s is tighter and more forceful than plain ㅅ. A 2023 study of Korean phonetics places the tense consonant series’ existence by the creation of Hangul, the Korean alphabet, in 1443, and its development before the end of the fifteenth century. The series may have grown from earlier spellings that repeated consonants. The doubled letters mark sound distinctions, not emphasis.
Why is 싸 split into Korean letters?
싸 is one syllable block made from ㅆ and ㅏ. Hangul places a starting consonant and its vowel together in a square block. Unicode can store 싸 as that single block or as its two component letters, called jamo: ㅆ ㅏ. Both forms represent the same syllable.
Neutral as a syllable; the complete word can be everyday, practical, or crude.
Do not translate isolated 싸 as “cheap”; the word may mean “wrap,” “pack,” or the crude verb.
