쎗 is one syllable in Hangul, the Korean writing system; the full word around it determines its meaning. A Korean input method assembles its three letter components into a block as you type.

What 쎗 means

It contributes one syllable; the Korean word around it supplies the meaning.

If 쎗 appears alone, read it as a syllable fragment and use the surrounding text to work out the intended word. The character gives you a syllable, not a complete word-level definition.

Hangul was developed in 1443 under King Sejong. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained its letters and how to combine them. The writing system gave people a more direct way to write Korean and made reading more accessible to those who had not learned Chinese characters.

Why does 쎗 form a block?

Hangul fits each Korean syllable into a compact block.

Hangul letters, called jamo, are arranged as an initial consonant, a vowel, and sometimes a final consonant. In 쎗, those parts are ㅆ, ㅔ, and ㅅ, in that order.

Before Hangul, Korean writers adapted Chinese characters to record Korean through methods such as Hyangchal, Idu, and Gugyeol. Hangul offered a more direct writing system. Although Chinese-character literacy held prestige among the educated elite, Hangul spread through practical writing, letters, and literature. By 1894, official documents were ordered to use Korean writing.

How do I type 쎗?

Enter ㅆ, then ㅔ, then ㅅ with a Korean input method.

On a standard two-set Korean QWERTY layout (Dubeolsik), press ShiftT, then P, then T. The input method joins the keystrokes into 쎗; it may briefly show an unfinished block before the final consonant completes it.

Neutral in Korean writing; its role depends on the word around this syllable.

Why does 쎗 look different in different fonts?

Each font draws Hangul characters in its own style, so the same text can have different shapes. A font without this character may show a box or fallback glyph, but the underlying text remains 쎗.
