What 씈 means
It spells a Korean syllable, not a standalone word. The block joins three Hangul letters, called jamo (syllable parts): ㅆ begins it, ㅡ is the vowel, and ㅋ ends it. Fonts may arrange the parts differently inside the square without changing the character.
Why does Hangul use syllable blocks?
Hangul was designed to write spoken Korean. It developed when Korean writing also used Hanja, Chinese characters. Its creation is explained in Hunminjeongeum, a text about the new alphabet dated 1443 and published in 1446.

Questions people ask
1Why does 씈 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
