What 씿 means
씿 appears in 씿다, a regional verb meaning “to wash.”
As a Korean dialect form, 씿다 corresponds to standard 씻다. 씿 by itself is one syllable rather than a complete verb; in a message, the surrounding words help identify what the sender meant.
A 1932 issue of the Korean-language journal 한글 lists 씿다 beside 洗, a Chinese character meaning “wash.”
Is 씿 standard Korean?
No. 씻다 is the standard spelling.
In 1989, a Korean-language journal listed 씿다 as a form from Chungcheong, a region in Korea. A 2015 university language-center answer placed it mainly in parts of the Korean regions Gangwon and Gyeongbuk. A 2023 national dialect survey found 씿다 among older speakers in Jeolla and described regional variation overall as concentrated among older speakers.
That makes 씿 useful when quoting or deliberately preserving a regional voice. In standard writing, it can read as a typo; use 씻다 when that is not your intention.
Why can 씿 appear as separate letters?
Hangul joins letters called jamo into syllable blocks.
Unicode can store 씿 as one syllable character or as its three jamo letters. Normalization can switch between those forms without changing the intended Korean text.
Uncommon in standard Korean writing; it can preserve a regional voice.
For standard Korean, write 씻다; 씿 can look like a typo.
