What 쓉 means
No fixed meaning; read it within a Korean word. It combines initial consonant ㅆ, vowel ㅟ, and final consonant ㅂ. These component letters are called jamo; on its own, 쓉 is a syllable, not a complete Korean word.
Hangul was devised as a writing system for Korean; 쓉 is one possible syllable in it, not a separately invented sign. The first documented record of its creation appears in the 1443 Sejong Shilok, a Korean court chronicle. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum records the script's creation and principles; its title means “Proper sounds for instructing the people.”
Hangul offered a teachable way to write Korean compared with older methods using Chinese characters, such as idu, hyangchal, and gugyeol. Its spread was regional and sporadic in the 15th-16th centuries. The name Hangeul appears in the early 1910s and was widely used by 1928.
How do I type 쓉 on a Korean keyboard?
Enter its component letters in order. A Korean input method combines 쓉 from ㅆ, then ㅟ, then ㅂ. On the standard two-set Dubeolsik layout, press ShiftT, N, L, then Q. If a following vowel moves the final consonant into the next block, that is normal input behavior, not a different character.
Why can 쓉 be stored in different forms?
The same syllable can have more than one Unicode representation. Unicode, the standard computers use to represent text, can store a Hangul syllable as one combined character or as a sequence of jamo. Text software can convert between these forms while keeping the displayed syllable the same, so the stored data may differ. If it appears as an empty box, the font or app lacks character support; that does not change the syllable's meaning.
As a syllable, 쓉 is emotionally neutral; the surrounding Korean word and sentence provide the tone.
A lone 쓉 is not enough to infer a complete word or message.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
