What 수 means
The word or grammatical construction determines its meaning. Korean su can mean “number” or “count.” In 수 있다, it helps express ability or possibility; in 수업, meaning “class,” it is only part of the word.
If someone sends you 수 alone, ask for the full phrase. In a schedule it can abbreviate Wednesday; elsewhere it may be a syllable taken from a longer word.
Where did this syllable come from?
It follows the construction rules of Hangul, the Korean alphabet. The Hunminjeongeum, a book published in 1446, explains the alphabet's letter design and how letters combine into syllables.
수 combines the letters ㅅ and ㅜ, with no final consonant. It is a product of an invented alphabet's system, not a separately invented picture-symbol.
How do I type 수?
With Korean two-set input active, press T, then B, without Shift. Two-set is a Korean keyboard layout. The input method may first show ㅅ, then assemble 수 after the second key. If you get Latin letters instead, switch your input language to Korean.
수 is ordinary Korean writing, not a decorative emblem with a fixed message.
Do not translate every 수 as “number”; read the whole word or phrase.

1Can a font change what 수 means?
No. A font can alter the shapes and spacing of its components, but it remains the same syllable, not a different Korean word.
