What 쉬 means
By itself, 쉬 is a syllable, not a complete word. In 쉬다, it begins a verb meaning to rest or take a break. In 쉬운 and 쉬워, it appears in forms of 쉽다, meaning “easy.”
쉬 follows Hangul’s rule of combining letters into written syllable blocks. The script’s first account, Hunminjeongeum, is dated 1443; an explanatory book about its letters and combinations appeared in 1446. Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write than the earlier reliance on Chinese characters for Korean writing, then spread through translated books and everyday documents. This block represents a Korean syllable, not a pictorial sign with a separate origin.
How do I type 쉬?
On the South Korean Dubeolsik layout, type t, then n, then l. Dubeolsik is South Korea’s standard two-set keyboard layout: t enters ㅅ, n enters ㅜ, and l enters ㅣ. The Korean input method joins the vowels as ㅟ and composes the block 쉬.
With Korean input active, the input method builds the syllable from those keys in order. If another result appears, check that the Korean layout is active and that the keys were entered in sequence.

시 uses ㅣ instead of ㅟ. 쉿 adds final ㅅ and is the Korean interjection for telling someone to be quiet (“shh”). 쉽 adds final ㅂ and is the stem of 쉽다, meaning “easy.”
By itself, it has no fixed chat tone; the Korean word or sentence supplies the tone.
Bare 쉬 does not mean “shh”; 쉿 is the Korean hush interjection.
