hangul syllable tyunj

Hangul Syllable Tyunj

9890/11172

튡 is one Hangul syllable block, built from ㅌ, ㅠ, and final ㄵ; alone, it has no fixed word meaning. Korean text uses these blocks as writing units, and a standard Korean 2-set keyboard composes this one from four keystrokes.

What 튡 means

It is a syllable-sized Hangul unit, not a separate symbol with a fixed definition.

Hangul is the writing system used for Korean. This block combines three jamo—letters that join to build a syllable: initial ㅌ, vowel ㅠ, and final cluster ㄵ. The technical label “Tyunj” describes that sound sequence; it is not a translated word.

Hangul was introduced in 1443 and formally promulgated in 1446. King Sejong named the script Hunminjeongeum, “Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People,” and a guide to its design accompanied its promulgation. The new script aimed to make Korean writing accessible to people without a Chinese-character education. In its early history, Hangul writing included Buddhist texts and letters by court women, although some elites resisted it. The name Hangeul entered use in the early 20th century. The two Koreas use different names: Hangeul (한글) in South Korea and Chosŏn'gŭl (조선글) in North Korea.

How do I type 튡?

Enter ㅌ, ㅠ, ㄴ, then ㅈ in Korean 2-set input.

On the standard 2-set QWERTY layout, those letters are on x, b, s, and w. The input method combines the last two as final ㄵ. If the keys produce Latin letters, switch your keyboard to Korean input.

Why does 튡 look different in my font?

Fonts can change its drawn shape without changing its text identity.

Hangul fonts arrange the jamo within a square syllable cell. Their proportions and stroke details can vary, but the underlying character remains the same.

1

Why does 튡 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
