Hangul Syllable Waeh

왷 is a Korean Hangul syllable, not an emoji; it adds a sound inside a word or name instead of naming an idea. Its block is built from three letters.

What 왷 means

It is one syllable, not a standalone idea. Its jamo (letters) are initial ᄋ, vowel ᅫ, and final ᇂ. Unicode normalization treats block 왷 and sequence 왷 as equivalent.

Hangul was devised in 1443 as a more direct way to write Korean than adapting Chinese characters through Idu, Gugyeol, or Hyangchal. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained the alphabet.

It later served books, letters, and official writing, becoming Korea’s national script in 1894. After Japan annexed Korea in 1910, scholars continued research and teaching to preserve Korean language and writing.

1

Why does 왷 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
