What 웙 means
It spells a syllable; the Korean word supplies meaning.
At a word end or before a consonant, only the ㄹ part is heard; before a vowel, ㅌ moves into the next syllable.
How did Hangul begin?
Hangul was devised in 1443 and explained in 1446.
The 1446 Hunminjeongeum guide introduced writing Korean more easily than with Chinese characters. Hangul gained official status in 1894 and lost it under Japanese rule in 1910. A proposed link to Phags-pa, another writing system, remains disputed.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
