윇 is one Korean syllable block in Hangul spelling. Unicode’s label “wigs” combines its component names; it is not an English translation.

What 윇 means

Its parts are ㅇ ㅟ ㄳ.

Here, ㅇ is the silent initial, ㅟ the vowel, and ㄳ the final consonant cluster. These basic Hangul parts are called jamo. Unicode normalization can separate the jamo while preserving the same syllable.

Hangul is recorded in the 1443 Sejong Annals, a royal chronicle; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, a script guide, explains its design. Its letters offered a Korean writing method alongside older Chinese-character methods such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal. It appeared in Buddhist and Confucian texts, then in public and practical writing after the late 16th century.
