What 읱 means
Type dmlx on a Korean two-set keyboard.
Dubeolsik maps d, m, l and x to ㅇ, ㅡ, ㅣ and ㅌ; the input method joins ㅡ ㅣ as ㅢ. Unicode can store a syllable as one precomposed block or as a sequence of conjoining jamo. Normalization can convert between the forms, and font or app support for shaping the decomposed form varies.
What does 읱 mean?
It has no established standalone Korean word meaning as of 2026-09-13.
The Unicode label follows the syllable’s structure rather than translating a Korean word. Jamo are Hangul’s component letters: the structure here is initial ㅇ, vowel ㅢ and final ㅌ.
Why was Hangul created?
Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to read and write.
The earliest documented record of its creation is from 1443; Hunminjeongeum, the publication that explained the new script, appeared in 1446. Before Hangul, Korean was written with Chinese characters and systems that adapted them to Korean, including Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal. A proposed connection to the Mongol Phags-pa script rests on similarities in some shapes; descent is unsettled.
Hangul appeared in religious, practical, literary and administrative writing. It became an official writing system in 1894, lost that status under Japanese rule in 1910, and North and South Korean writing policies diverged after 1945. These are milestones in Hangul’s history, not meanings attached to 읱.
Technical and neutral; fits Korean writing, Hangul composition, and input discussions.
