What 𐴢 means
It marks a bare consonant with no following vowel. Put it after a consonant when the spelling calls for it. It appears with certain consonants when they stand alone or end a word, but it is optional and does not follow every consonant.
Inside a consonant cluster, Hanifi Rohingya usually writes the consonants in sequence without sakin.
Where did Hanifi Rohingya come from?
It is a modern alphabet for Rohingya, developed in the 1980s. The Rohingya Language Committee developed it under Maulana Mohammed Hanif. A signed document shows a form of the script finalized on 19 February 1980. Arabic shaped its overall structure, while some letter forms show Latin and Myanmar influence. Rohingya is also written in Arabic, Myanmar, and Latin scripts.
Handwritten primers, a primary-level arithmetic book, and printed news weeklies show the script in education and publishing.
