What ֤ means
It guides Biblical Hebrew chant and groups words.
Mahpakh is one of the teamim, Hebrew Bible reading accents also called trop—not a vowel. As a conjunctive accent, it links a word to Pashta, a separating accent.
Jewish scribes called Masoretes developed written reading cues. Full vowel-marking systems appear to have developed in the seventh and eighth centuries; written accents were fully developed in ninth-century manuscripts. Babylonian and Palestinian marks sat above letters; Tiberian notation became standard.
