What ⎀ means
It marks where text belongs or names the Insert key function.
In editing, an insertion mark points to the exact place omitted text belongs. On a keyboard, ⎀ is the insert key symbol: a pictogram for the Insert function.
A 13th-century manuscript example uses a caret-like mark to show where text should be added. Later proofreading marks gave printers the same instruction. The Unicode proposal maps ⎀ to symbol 11 in ISO/IEC 9995-7, a standard for keyboard layouts. That is a functional link to earlier correction marks, not evidence that this glyph appeared in manuscripts.
Technical and editorial: ⎀ names an insertion action or a keyboard function.
Readers may not recognize it as a request to add words.
