The Guḍnāpur pillar lists gifts

Historian N.S. Rangaraju's 2017 account places the Guḍnāpur pillar under Kadamba king Ravivarman in the early sixth century and calls it the earliest inscription with all nine Kannada numerals; the exact engraving date is unsettled.

A 2021 study reads nine numbered entries as gifts of villages, farmland and water tanks linked to rituals at a temple dedicated to Kāma. The record gives numerals an administrative role; Indian numerals developed through regional forms.
