What ꤀ means
It marks zero in Kayah Li numerals.
Teacher Htae Bu Phae devised it in March 1962 to assert Kayah identity against Myanmar's Bamar majority and competing ways of writing Kayah.
Kayah Li's order and some forms draw on Myanmar and other scripts descended from Brahmi, an ancient South Asian script; many signs are new. In the 1980s, Kayah State officials circulated schoolbooks in it; later, it helped sustain Kayah identity in Karen refugee camps along the Thai border.
