khitan small script character-18b34

Khitan character 18B34

53/471

𘬴 is a Khitan Small Script sign, made about 925 to write the Khitan language. Unicode names it by number; the label does not give a Khitan reading. Uyghur writing is said to have inspired the script. The Jin dynasty, ruled by the Jurchens, used it until Khitan writing was banned in 1191; Jurchen scripts later followed its model. The first known tomb inscriptions came to light in 1922.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘬴 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
