khitan small script character-18b35

Khitan Small Script Character 18B35

54/471

𘬵 is a character in Khitan small script, created around 925 to write the Khitan language. Khitan small-script inscriptions survive from 983; the script served official records, epitaphs, poetry and translations. After the Liao fell in 1125, Jurchens kept using it and modeled their own scripts on Khitan writing. It mixed word and sound signs; its number-only Unicode name cannot tell you how this glyph was read.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘬵 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
