Khitan Small Script Character 18B5D

94/471

𘭝 is a sound sign in the Khitan small script, which wrote the Khitan language. Yelü Diela, brother of the Liao dynasty’s founder, created it in 925 CE because Khitan word endings strained the older large script. It combined Chinese-derived shapes with sound spelling linked to an earlier Uyghur script, grouping signs into word blocks. Liao inscriptions and literature include it; official use ended under Jin rule in 1191.

Why does 𘭝 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
