Khitan Small Script Character 18BEE

239/471

𘯮 is a sign in the partly deciphered Khitan Small Script; its Unicode label is an identifier, not a Khitan reading. Tradition credits Yelü Diela with creating the script around 925 after seeing Uyghur writing; the earliest securely dated surviving inscription is from 1051. It appeared in Liao records and tomb inscriptions, remained official under the Jurchen Jin dynasty until 1191, and shaped Jurchen writing.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘯮 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
