What 𘰆 means
Its proposed sound value is aŋ.
The reading is a scholarly reconstruction from Khitan inscriptions, not a translation.
Traditional histories credit Yelü Diela, younger brother of the Liao founder, with creating the script around 925; they link its design to Uyghur writing, despite few visible similarities. The earliest securely dated surviving text is the Wugulin Taishi epitaph from 1051, a carved tomb memorial. Khitan small script spells words with clusters—groups of sound signs—and standalone word signs. The large script also wrote Khitan; Jurchen writing later adapted Khitan scripts.

Questions people ask
1Does BabelStone Khitan Small Linear support clusters?
No. BabelStone Khitan Small Linear v. 16.000, released 2024-08-28, shows single glyphs horizontally and does not compose clusters. Historical Khitan small script runs in vertical columns from top to bottom, ordered right to left, so drawing one sign does not guarantee full-text layout.
