khitan small script character-18ca9

Khitan Small Script Character 18CA9

426/471

𘲩 is a character in Khitan Small Script, a way of writing Khitan; it is not an emoji. Created around 925, the script used Chinese character forms and was said to draw on Uyghur writing. It served Liao official life; its oldest surviving inscription dates to 1053. Khitan Large Script wrote the same language, and Khitan writing continued under the Jin dynasty (1115–1234); surviving texts are mainly epitaphs and monuments.

What 𘲩 means

Not always; some signs join into sound clusters. Khitan Small Script uses both word signs (one sign can stand for a whole word) and sound signs grouped into clusters that spell a word. The isolated Unicode character name identifies this glyph but does not say which job it performs.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘲩 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
