khitan small script character-18cb7

Khitan Small Script Character 18CB7

𘲷 is a Khitan small-script sign; Unicode’s generated name is an index, not its reading. Liao histories credit Diela with creating the script around 925; a 2026 study argues it was systematized later and dates the earliest securely dated surviving inscription to 1051. The script wrote Khitan on grave inscriptions and objects, drew on Chinese forms and reportedly Uyghur writing, and later influenced scripts used by the Jurchen people.

What 𘲷 means

You need the surrounding Khitan text to identify its role. Khitan small script mixes logograms, signs for whole words, with phonograms, signs for sounds. Phonograms usually join into compact word blocks; an isolated sign does not show whether this glyph is a word sign or a sound sign.
