Text symbol

What ៘ means

It means “and so on” at the end of a list.

The Khmer word beyyal means “et cetera.” It can be written as ។បេ។ or ។ល។ with Khmer letters, or between dashes as –បេ– or –ល–.

Unicode 17.0 discourages the single sign: beyyal is a word with several spellings, so new Khmer text should write it out.

Don't confuse it with

1

។ល។ Is ៘ the same as ។ល។? Both mean “and so on”; ។ល។ spells the word out with letters and is the recommended form.

Questions people ask

1

Why does ៘ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
