What 🤃 means
It shows a feast’s service rank. In the Typikon, a rulebook for worship, 🤃 signals the Great Doxology and guides which prayers clergy use.
This rank-marking practice is older than 🤃: an account by the monk Nikon of Black Mountain describes three feast levels marked with signs in the late 11th century. The exact four-dot sign appears in Dolnitsky’s 1899 book for Ukrainian Greek Catholics, members of the Catholic Church who follow the Byzantine style of worship. Russian Orthodox books use a different set of marks.
