What 𐙮 means

It has no secure word or pronunciation. A322 is a catalogue number in GORILA, a published catalogue of Linear A inscriptions, not a translated Minoan word. As of 2026-09-14, the surviving evidence supplies no secure sound or meaning for this sign.

One specialist sign list gives the tentative glosses “Lid?” and “Seal?” The question marks matter: these are proposals, not words you can read from the sign.

Where did Linear A come from?

It grew from a local writing tradition on Bronze Age Crete. Its early phase is associated with the First Palace period, 19th–18th centuries BCE, with an early concentration around Phaistos. During the Second Palace period, 17th–15th centuries BCE, it spread across Crete and parts of the Aegean. Linear A was probably created locally, with some influence from broader Near Eastern writing principles.

Clay tablets, roundels (small clay discs), and sealings (clay impressions attached to goods) recorded economic transactions and the movement of goods. Stone offering tables, vessels, metal objects, and figurines show cultic or practical uses too.

Linear B developed from Linear A and reused many syllabogram shapes (signs for syllables), but a matching shape does not prove a matching sound. Linear A eventually stopped serving in administration. Cretan Hieroglyphic was used at the same time; the scripts exchanged bookkeeping forms, which does not prove direct descent. A study compares sign 17 on the Phaistos Disc with A322 as a rotated visual parallel, not a proven match.

What does 𐙮 mean in a message?

It identifies Linear A, but it cannot reveal the sender’s intent. Without more context, the sign alone does not say whether the sender means the script or something personal. Treat it as a historical-script reference unless the surrounding words or sender explain more.

A reference to an undeciphered historical script; its tone comes from the surrounding text.

Treat “lid,” “seal,” and any pronunciation as unverified.
